In a unexpected partnership that breaks conventional forecasts, the game developer has announced an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Uncovered

According to the official announcement, "A strange encounter pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where rumors of forbidden rituals and monstrous transformations reverberate through the obscurity." The narrative introduces a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a hidden cult.

The adventure centers on "peculiar tests and a monstrous foe" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Metamorphoses

The preview showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer finishes with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the captive, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Extra Features

Players who finish the adventure will acquire an unique katana alongside numerous items concealed throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-based costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Update

This release also adds the game's latest no-cost story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This humorous adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive techniques: Naoe debuts a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime franchises. The series earlier showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially contained a quest that clearly referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
